IPL technology and permanent hair reduction

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is an advanced light-based technology. It works by delivering shots of light of many different wavelengths over the area being treated. Similarly to Laser treatments, for example for Hair Removal, light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair [melanin] causing hair follicles to heat up. This results in destruction of hair follicles. Different sets of configurations are used to treat various hair and skin types and conditions. At Shines & Shimmers, we use the latest state-of-the-art European equipment (SPL and VPL).

While keeping your budget in mind we offer fast, comfortable, effective treatments for

1.progressive permanent hair reduction
2.vascular treatments (damaged capillaries and spider veins; fine diffused redness)
3.skin rejuvenation treatments (powerful collagen boosters resulting in fresher, younger, firmer looking skin)
4.pigmentation treatments (sun damage; age spots; freckles)

Please note: Laser hair removal treatments, acne treatments, vascular treatments, skin pigmentation treatments can all be performed using this amazing technology. However different parameters are used for each treatment, for every patient.

LASER hair removal vs IPL hair removal

Lasers and IPLs have been used for permanent hair reduction and skin rejuvenation treatments for many years. Although both IPL and Laser are light-based technologies, there are distinct differences between the two. The key ones are:

a) Lasers use a single wavelength of coherent light while IPLs utilize various wavelengths of incoherent light. There is a large assortment of laser machines operating in clinics and salons. Different Laser equipment would usually operate on different wavelengths and parameters. Various wavelengths of light absorb into (and effect) different substances [chromophores] in our skin and body differently and this can make it very difficult for the consumer to choose the correct laser machine. The machine would have to suit their particular skin and hair type and tone as well as be suitable for treatment of that person抯 particular condition [hair removal or pigmentation treatment etc]. This means that two different people may respond to treatment on the same equipment completely differently, even if they are similar in the way they look.

b) Historically, laser equipment has been more expensive than IPL equipment, this could potentially effect the price of treatments.

c) IPL machines typically do not require the high levels of power or energy fluence necessary for lasers. High levels of power or energy fluence used by lasers can be associated with such side effects as skin discoloration, crusting and burns/blisters.

d) As a rule laser treatments are more time consuming than IPL sessions. This is due to the fact Laser machines usually have a significantly smaller size of crystal, therefore the an area treated per shot is much smaller.

Please note: Laser hair removal treatments, acne treatments, vascular treatments, skin pigmentation treatments can all be performed using this amazing light-based technology. However different parameters are used for each treatment, for every patient. The end result of your hair removal treatment plan will depend on many factors including the skill of your laser hair removal therapist, the kind of equipment your skin clinic uses as well as you hair and skin type.

compare the treatment

Before Your IPL Treatment
Please shave the area the morning of your treatment or within 10 hours of your appointment, (this does not need to be done for your initial consultation and patch test). You will be charged extra if this is to be done by the therapist at the time of treatment. If your hair's density is very sparse leave some hair visible so we may determine precisely where to treat.
Do not wax, shave, tweeze or bleach any of the areas to be treated at least one month prior to your treatment. It is also recommend to avoid any irritating medication or chemicals which may interfere with the IPL treatment.
You must also avoid any sun exposure to the areas to be treated. This includes any solariums for about one month prior to any IPL treatment. Using an SPF 30+ sunscreen will help to minimise any sun exposure prior to treatment.

After Your IPL Treatment
Please keep the area treated away from any sun exposure, and use SPF 30+ sunscreen for at least 7 days after your treatment to allow your skin to heal and recover. Also minimise any bathing or washing with hot water, use warm water until your skins feeling of sunburn has disappeared.
Most of the hairs that have been exposed to the IPL will appear within 1 week of treatment. This means they have detached from the root and are being expelled. Once you have noticed this you can then gently exfoliate the hairs with a soft wet towel or non invasive exfoliating gloves. Please ensure you only do this once your skins redness has calmed down as this is a natural reaction and generally lasts only about 4 days to 1 week.
If you have any irritation after your treatment this usually lasts for 24 hours. Please also be aware that no two skins are alike and reactions may vary from person to person.

How does laser/IPL hair removal compare with other hair removal methods?

Shaving, waxing and depilatory creams are all temporary methods that must be repeated on a regular basis. Electrolysis is a valuable method for treating white, grey and red hairs (and we do offer this service) but it is very slow and suffers from the same drawbacks as laser/IPL method - only those hairs that are actively growing will be destroyed - the others will grow back.Light based hair removal is the only significant improvement in hair removal in the last 20 years. Many technologies, including Alexandrite, Lightsheer diode, NdYAG and Intense Pulse Light ("IPL") techniques, now carry the American FDA approval for effective hair removal or technically termed "permanent hair reduction".

How do I prepare myself for treatment?

The laser/IPL targets the pigment in the hair and skin and thus it is important that you do not have a suntan - whether natural or artificial. If you have a tan you should wait at least 3 weeks after your last UV exposure until there is no activity in the pigment producing cells. If you are plucking, waxing or threading, you should stop 2 weeks prior to treatment and change to shaving or cutting the hair. The treatment area needs to be shaved the day before treatment. You should avoid perfumes, deodorants or any potential irritants in the treatment area before and after treatment. You should avoid alcohol, aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatorys such as Brufen for 48 hours before treatment

One. Treatment Theory:

1.physical stimulation effect: when it acts on the skin and occur the chemical effect, the intensive pulsed light makes the molecule structure change inside of the collagen fibre and flexibility fibre of dermis, and remew skin flexibility. Moreiver, the light energy could increse the blood vessel function, improve blood circle, that remove the wrinkle and shrink the soarse pores. 2.light pyrogenation effect: the quantity of pigment group in ill structure is super higher than of that in the normal skin, that its temperature is also higher after aborbing the light. Make use of the temperature difference, obturate the blood vessel and the pigments broken and disassembled, without damage the normal structure.

Two. Applications: 1.spots removal:fleck, burn spot, age pigment, chloasma and other pigment deposit 2.unwanted hair removal 3.wrinkle removal: canthus wrinkle, neck wrinkle, gestation wrinkle 4.breast lifting. 5.red blood streak removal, bottle nose treatment, erythema treatment 6.shrink the coarse pore, eliminate or lighten the acne scar 7.increase the the collagenb layer, and renew skin flexibility 8.skin care: make the body white

Why Is IPL So Exciting,Safe For Skin Rejuvenation ?

lasers deliver a specific band of light that will generally treat one skin problem.LePapillon's Quantum SR and Vasculite VR IPL Photorejuvenation Systems, deliver a broad band of pulsed light. so they are an alternative to laser surgery, chemical peels and it has no downtime! Following a treatment, most patients can go back to their usual activities and can immediately apply make-up.
IPL is a safe,non-invasive solution that can be customized to your individual needs and will provide superior cosmetic results and high levels ofsatisfaction. Even after the first treatment, skin feels smoother and appears more even toned.IPL is noninvasive and very safe. You can usually return directly to work and apply makeup immediately. You can resume all your activities(except sun exposure)immediately. Very rarely, temporary mild bruising or blistering may occur in the treated areas, which will resolve in a few days.
