How long does the hair stay gone and does it hurt?

Hair may never return at all. The exact amount of time that the hair stays gone depends on the area being treated, the settings selected by the technician, and individual hair and skin factors. Depending on the settings used by the technician in accordance with the patient request, hair removal may either be permanent or for a certain period of time (4-5-6 months) No. The light is selectively absorbed by the hair and hair follicles. The skin itself is exposed to little heat. Plus, no irritating chemicals are used, and the hairs aren’t pulled on in any way.

IPL treatment

The laser works by disabling hairs that are in their active growth cycle at the time of your treatment. Because other hairs enter their growth cycles at different time's additional treatments will be necessary to disable all of the follicles in a given area. Generally with the body it may take 3 to 6 treatments and with the face 4-8 treatments.
The treatments are spaced apart once every 8-10 weeks for the body and once every 4-6 weeks for the face. When we do a treatment the hairs will actually stay away for a period of 7-8 weeks for the body and 4-5 weeks for the face. At this time the hairs will start to grow back and this is the best time to be doing the next treatment.
Our lasers are fully certified to claim 'Permanent hair reduction' which means up to 85-90% of the hair can be removed which in most cases is a very good result.

Am I a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

The ideal candidate for laser hair removal has dark hair and fair skin. Darker skin absorbs more the laser light, and lighter skin interferes less with the Movement of the laser light into the hair follicle. Dark or tanned skins run a higher risk of pigmentation changes following the procedure.
Keep in mind that it's not impossible to treat darker skinned individuals. Dark skins require a test patch first and will require more visits using more conservative settings.

Are there are areas of the body that should not be treated for hair removal?

The beauty of the IPL is that it can eliminate hair from all parts of the body, including the face, neck, arms, legs, chest, back, bikini line, top to bottom and all the way down to the toes. While hair on different parts of the body reside at different depths, the broad spectrum of light enables selection of the wavelength range appropriate for hair follicles residing at various depths on the body. The same principle applies with respect to eliminating hair of all colors and densities.

Why should I use the LightSheer Diode Laser System rather than the methods I've been using for years?

A: The LightSheer Diode Laser System's design provides for enhanced comfort during treatment, minimal risk of infection, speed and accuracy. Since the system uses a unique cooling handpiece, it minimizes skin irritation that other methods may create. Since it is non-invasive (no needles to penetrate the skin), the risk of introducing bacteria into the skin is reduced. Because the system is fast, it allows for larger areas to be treated, considerably increasing the efficiency of the hair removal process, which allows more patients to be treated during a typical day. Finally, the LightSheer Diode Laser is a precise instrument that can be adjusted to damage only the hair follicle while minimally affecting the surrounding skin.

Radio frequency for hair removal

Radio frequency (abbreviated RF, rf, orr.f.) is a term that refers to alternating current (AC) havingcharacteristics such that, if the current is input to an antenna, an electromagnetic (EM) field is generated suitable for wireless broadcastingand/or communications. These frequencies cover asignificant portion of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, extending from nine kilohertz (9 kHz),the lowest allocated wireless communications frequency (it's within the range of human hearing), to thousands of gigahertz(GHz).
The frequencyof an RF signal is inversely proportional to the wavelengthof the EM field to which it corresponds. At 9 kHz, the free-spacewavelength is approximately 33 kilometers (km) or 21 miles (mi). At the highestradio frequencies, the EM wavelengths measure approximately one millimeter (1 mm). As the frequency isincreased beyond that of the RF spectrum, EM energy takes the form ofinfrared (IR), visible, ultraviolet (UV), X rays, and gamma rays.

Hair removal for BLONDS and REDHEADS

Most hair types usually contain pigment and therefore can be treated. However, very light [yellow pigment], red [red pigment] or white [no pigment] hairs cannot be treated as effectively as dark [black or dark brown or light brown pigments] hairs. This is because yellow and red pigments do not absorb light as well as brown and black pigments. This means that the darkest, thickest hairs respond best to this type of hair removal treatments. It would take many more treatments to treat lighter shades with IPLs and higher energy levels may be needed, so more caution is also required to avoid damage to the surrounding tissue. Shines & Shimmers IPL clinics offer substantially discounted prices for people who want to try to treat these lighter shades of hairs because it will take much longer and nobody really know what the end result will be. Some therapists and clinics claim to have IPL machines that can treat light hairs effectively. According to scientific evidence it is not possible as light is (discriminatory) attracted to color and is absorbed by it. What many clinics are not telling their clients is that they use a technology which utilises RF [radio frequencies]. As far as our understanding of it goes RF absorbes into ALL substances in your skin/body (including your red blood cells, white blood cells etc) and not just the pigment (which is what a normal IPL does). May be it is this great new trend but thinking logically, if this was such an effective method many other manufacturers would be copying it, and they are not.

Vein removal

This procedure is appropriate for a broad range of vessels, with particularly good results for spider veins and broken capillaries (known as telangiectasia).
The intense pulse light is absorbed by the veins and causes destruction of the vessel and coagulation of the blood within. The remnants are later re-absorbed by the body and blood flow is redirected. All the healing takes place below the skin surface.
This procedure is particularly good results for spider veins and broken capillaries…Significant results will be seen about 2–6 weeks after the first treatment, however final results may not be apparent for several months. Follow-up treatments may or may not be necessary. It is possible that new veins will appear, especially if you are exposed to extreme weather conditions.
The procedure may sting a little. After treatment, for the first 24 hours, a slight reddening and local swelling of the skin may result. It is recommended that you do not take hot baths, showers or partake in vigorous physical activity during this time.

Laser tattoo removal

Laser tattoo removal is a safe and effective method. It is less painful than getting a tattoo. Lasers remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors of the tattoo with a high-intensity light beam. The pigment is then absorbed by the body. The more laser treatments you have, the more the laser can penetrate to wipe away the ink. The number of treatments required will depend on whether the tattoo is professional or amateur. Amateur tattoos are more easily removed; however, with any tattoo you will see a lightening after every treatment. Once the tattoo has been successfully removed the result is permanent. Overdoing the laser treatments can cause damage to your skin and eventually lead to scarring. The laser type, number of sessions and the patient's body ability to rid itself of the ink are factors that can determine the outcome of the procedure. Sometimes there are no traces of scarring but it really depends on the situation. Depending on your tattoo, you may need anywhere from 1-10 sessions. Each laser treatment takes only a few minutes to complete. Furthermore, the pigment will never return after it is removed. After laser tattoo removal, there is some redness and mild blistering like a sunburn. This resolves in 3-7 days.

Multiple treatments necessary for IPL

Why are multiple treatments necessary?Depending on the number of conditions you are treating, and the severity of the individual problem, a series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk — and, it preserves the wonderful “no down time” feature that people appreciate so much.

When will I see results?

You can expect to see a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries. People with visible aging from the sun can expect to see their skin become smoother with a decrease in fine wrinkles, reduction in pore size and fading of sunspots. Many patients with rosacea see improvement in breakouts and are able to decrease or discontinue their medications.
After your first treatment, your skin will feel smoother and will have more even tone. Improvement is gradual and will continue to be more visible after each treatment. Many individuals experience dramatic results only after 1-2 treatments; however, 4-6 treatments are performed for optimal results. Some patients will benefit from additional treatments depending on the specific condition being treated and desired results.

Who should not have laser IPL hair removal?

This really depends upon the type of machine used by a clinic and your skin and hair colour.
There is a wide variety of equipment promoted by around thirty manufacturers and distributors in China.
Some of the newer machines available claim that they can treat all skin types and hair colour, however other pieces of equipment may be more limited. As a result, some clinics may not be able to treat you for the following reasons:
if you have ginger hair which may respond poorly to the treatment. Blonde or white hairs sometimes hardly respond at all;
Mediterranean, Middle and Far Eastern skin types may need to be treated with care;
darker skin types than the groups listed above. They may not suitable for the stronger lasers because the skin pigment absorbs too much energy causing unwanted damage. Similarly, patients who have recent sun tans should wait until their tan fades.

General reasons of unsuitability not related to skin and hair type include:
1.any history of sensitivity to light based treatments;
2.an active infection at the site to be treated;
3.patients who have used the drug isotretinoin in the last year.
4.pregnancy

What conditions can Photorejevenation treat?

Imperfections from Sun Damage and Photo-aging!!Enlarged pores, dull complexions and other facial imperfections orabnormalities can detract from your well being and appearance, nomatter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology improvesboth the superficial and deeper skin layers and rejuvenates the skinwhile at the same time delivering beneficial thermal energy to deeptissue. After a series of treatments, you can see a significantreduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance ofsmoother, revitalized skin. The same treatment can be usedeffectively on the neck, the chest, and the hands.
Benign Vascular Lesions: Broken Veins and CapillariesThe face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vesselscalled capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure, andcertain lifestyle factors cause a number of them to break appearingas red streaks or blotches on the face. IPL therapy can eliminatedamaged veins and capillaries by removing virtually all trace ofthese unsightly blemishes.

Hair Removal

As the skin gets older it slows down the production of new skin, getting tired, therefore it does not repair or renew with the exuberance of youth. Not only does skin take longer to repair and renew but it also loses its structural integrity as the production of collagen and elastin decreases. With the face being the only place on the body where the skin is attached to the muscles, the face begins to drop and wrinkles form.

Laser photrejuvention awakens the skin again and massively stimulates its production of collagen and elastin, firming and toning the face and reducing wrinkles. The face looks much fuller and youthful with reduction in nasal labial folds and forehead wrinkles. Other areas of the body can also benefit as the laser treatment helps resurface the tops layer of the skin, giving a younger, smoother, more alive look. We are also trained as nutritionists, in herbal medicine, stress management and can add naturopathic approaches to these treatments. Laser treatment coupled with our microdermabrasion and non-surgical facelift treatments can take up to 20 years off some people's appearance without sugery.

Phtorejuvenation is generally carried out through 3 to 6 treatments with intervals of 21 days between treatments. After that if you wanted, you could have it once a month, just to pump up the face.

Red (Spider) Veins Elimination
Red spider veins are known as Telangiectasia and occur where there is clear indication that some of the tiny vessels on the surface of the skin are no longer working well and blood is trapped in them. This can be very unsightly and embarrassing for the person because they develop an uncontrollable ruddy completion. When left untreated these veins simply continue to spread.

This condition is most often seen in people with light skins, particularly people of Celtic origin but can occur in mid-range colour skins. It can be due to over-exposure to the sun, heat or certain medications, stress, autoimmune diseases, nutritional deficiency, or can be inherited. Over-use of alcohol also starts onset by causing a B vitamin deficiency so the texture of the vessels are not so strong and people lose some of their ability to regulate their body temperatures. Menopause is another time of onset for this disorder when women suffer from sweats and overheating as oestrogen and progesterone levels drop.

Laser treatment help cauterise these veins and eradicate them so the skin returns more to a normal colour. A series of treatments carried out with short intervals in between quickly deals with the problem in a very short period of time. We also recommend vitamins and herbal support to help the texture of the blood vessels improve.

What Do IPL Treatments Feel Like And How Many Will I Need?

As the name implies, the IPL hand-piece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required. However some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated.
Most areas require 3-6 treatments, but the number of IPL treatments you may require for optimal long-term benefits depends on various factors such as your hair's thickness, the area treated and your hair's growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time. But actually go through three distinct phases:growth, regression and resting. IPL systems work by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

Which is Better, Laser or IPL?

The results achieved by laser and IPL epilation are generally considered 'interchangeable', meaning about equal. However, each procedure has distinct advantages. Laser Epilation can also shave the skin while simultaneously treating the follicle below, whereas IPL cannot.
Intense Pulsed Light has the ability to treat large areas in less time (due to the total overall energy being used). In terms of 'progressive permanency', they both will typically produce an 80 to 90% reduction in ananagen hair growth activity within 90 days. Treatments should not be administered more than once per 14 day period (or twice a month).

IPL Skin Treatments Using Photorejuvenation

As the population ages, ever-increasing numbers of people are interested in improving their appearance. IPL technology can be used to help restore the skin's youthful appearance.
IPL technology improves the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for face and body. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because the procedure requires no downtime and has a low risk of side effects.
The gentle, non-ablative treatments use broad spectrum light to treat the face, chest, neck and hands—virtually anywhere that sun damage shows.

Is it safe to use the ipl machine

The IPL system was developed from years of research at the Wellman Laboratories of Photo-medicine, one of the world's leading medical laser research institutions. The IPL is pulsed, or "turned on," for only a fraction of a second and the duration of each pulse is just long enough to disable the hair follicles. A unique component of the IPL system, the actively cooled sapphire hand-piece, was designed to protect the skin by actively cooling it before, during and after the IPL is transmitted. It also actively draws off heat from the skin surface, which further protects the skin from injury.

How are IPL Skin Treatments using Photon rejuvenation performed?

Before treatment, a cold gel is usually applied to the area to be treated, and patients are given protective eyewear. During treatment, the smooth, glass surface of the IPL handpiece is gently applied to the skin, delivering precise pulses of light to the area being treated. IPL treatments are usually pain-free, but an anesthetic cream can be used if the light pulses are uncomfortable. Some patients compare the sensation to a light pinch or the snap of a rubber band. Treatment sessions usually last about 20 minutes, and a complete program usually includes four to six sessions. After treatment, patients can immediately return to normal routines and activities. Occasionally evidence of treatment such as redness or blotchiness may last for an hour or two.

Hair removal with intense pulsed light (IPL)

Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses light to eliminate hair more effectively and for a long period of time.
How it worksThis technique is similar to laser epilation, the difference being that it doesn’t use laser rays but intense light given out by a flash lamp. By channelling this intense light, melanin, the pigment that colours hair, experiences a large increase in temperature. It transmits this heat to the hair follicle, liquefying it. It can be compared to laser epilation because it works the same way, destroying melanin, the pigment of the hair. It's particularly effective on dark hairs that are rich in melanin.
What it involvesBefore you think about undergoing IPL treatment, consult your doctor. It should be carried out by a trained practiitioner who is used to carrying out the procedure. Your skin should not be tanned when you have it done and should be shaved around 3 days beforehand. The area to be treated will be covered with an anaesthetising cream, and you should wear protective glasses, like the practitioner, during the whole epilation session. You will need to have several sessions several weeks apart to obtain the required result on the treated area.
Advantages- It’s an effective method, like laser epilation. After treatment, obstinate hairs become finer, rarer, and take longer to grow back. It’s a long-lasting treatment.- It’s practically painless: you’ll feel a little prickling or light burning sensation at most.
Disadvantages- Depending on the area treated, you will have to have 5-10 sessions. Be prepared for 4 sessions for the eyebrows and 8 for the legs.- The price depends on the area: from £25 for eyebrows up to £300 for full legs.
What you need to know- You need to have hairs that are darker than your skin (this is true of most people). - This method should be used with caution on pigmented skin because this kind of skin contains high levels of melanin.- Epilation with a flash lamp is not advised for children or pregnant women, people whose skin is sensitive to ultraviolet light or people taking photosensitive medication.- Avoid exposing the treated area to the sun for at least two weeks after the treatment in order to avoid changes to the skin’s colour. It's best to plan IPL sessions during the winter.

What is IPL Photorejuvenation?

IPL is a technology used to restore the skin's youthful appearance and to stimulate the skin collagen renewal from within the skin.

Photorejuvenation is a non ablative process, which generates intense pulsed light to safely reduce the melanin (dark pigment) in the skin, so that pigmented lesions fade and slowly disappear.

This results in a more radiant and youthful skin.

The treatment is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because it requires no downtime.

Intense pulsed light

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), is most commonly employed by medical practitioners and aestheticians working under the guidance of a physician, is a method of hair removal from the body involving the use of a specially constructed xenon flash lamp and focusing optics.
The Intense Pulsed Light hair removal process has become very popular due to its cheaper and faster procedure compared to laser hair removal, which is often more costly and time consuming. The comparison of effectiveness between Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Epilation is debated by scientists, equipment manufacturers and practitioners, but results are generally accepted to be roughly equivalent. IPL is generally advertised as "permanent hair reduction" as opposed to "permanent hair removal" (these phrases are misnomers when applied to laser or IPL hair removal). It is also used for the treatment of the skin in a process known as photorejuvenation.
Hair removal mechanics: The focused, broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin by way of either a hand-held wand, or by an articulated arm. The intense light travels through the tissue of the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the bulb (root) of the hair. The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melanin is located, as opposed to the rest of the hair shaft. The light is converted to heat energy. The bulb and most of the hair shaft are instantly vaporized. The intense heat radiated by the hair also destroys the hair-producing papilla or the entire hair follicle. It is also claimed that direct light-heat conversion occurs directly in the darker colored capilaries that bring nourishing blood to the follicle.
IPL technology is also employed in the treatment of medical disorders of the skin including sun damage induced dyspigmentation and vascular changes; poikiloderma of Civatte; acne Rosacea; broken capillaries/telangiectases; vascular and pigmented birth marks. In terms of rosacea, IPL offers one of the few effective treatments to relieve the facial redness associated with the disorder. Such treatment is best administered by a specialist dermatologist. This new technology incorporates 'dual mode filtering' and other important advances which result in safer and more effective treatment than the older systems; which were initially designed for simple processes such as hair removal.
The pulses of light produced by IPL equipment are very short in duration, so discomfort and damage to non-target tissues is minor. Most people who undergo IPL epilation only experience slight irritation similar to that of a minor sunburn though under certain circumstances, blisters may occur. Men undergoing the procedure experience greater discomfort as male body hair is generally thicker than women's. Depending on the instrument settings and intensity, treating sensitive areas such as the chest and face can result in pain comparable to waxing the same areas; however this pain dissipates immediately. The light that emanates from the IPL wand is filtered to remove any ultraviolet components, eliminating the possibility of UV skin damage.

Does IPL hurt?

Some people describe the lasers pulse as a light tingling or stinging sensation as is usually no more painful than waxing or plucking a few hairs. The vast majority of people have no problems at all with the procedure.

Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others and a topical anesthesia may be used to decrease the sensation further more.

For many men and women, unwanted hair can be a nightmare.

Until now the only options for removing unwanted hair were smelly hair removal creams, sharp razors, stinging wax or painful electrolysis needles. IPL, an advanced approach to beautiful skin, provides the ultimate solution. Now, men and women alike will be pleased with the results made possible by the IPL Laser Hair Removal process.
